Delivering on Our Promises – Sustainability and Beyond
In 2017, we set a goal of achieving 50% renewable energy by 2025 – and we surpassed it.
In 2025, 63% of the energy powering our manufacturing sites came from renewable sources, including 37% generated directly from our own solar installations.
Sustainability as a Competitive Advantage
When you partner with Custom Flavors, you’re working with a company that holds itself to a higher standard, and that standard extends well beyond flavor. Our commitment to sustainability reflects who we are and how we operate: with intention, accountability, and a proven track record that sets us apart in a market where that kind of transparency is increasingly what customers demand.
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
Custom Flavors understands the threat that carbon emissions and greenhouse gases pose to our environment. This is why we are continually working to reduce our carbon footprint and expand our use of renewable energy, which we see as essential to a brighter future.
Harnessing Solar Power: Installing state-of-the-art solar energy systems at our production facilities has reduced our carbon emissions by nearly 337,000 kg.
Optimizing Energy Efficiency: Having energy-efficient LED lighting throughout our facilities maximizes the impact of the clean energy we produce.
Responsible Sourcing
Ethical supply chain management is at the core of how we do business. We carefully source and select ingredients that meet the highest standards of sustainability and safety. From glycerin certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to our Rainforest Alliance-certified cocoa powder, we’re constantly working to ensure that our products meet or exceed the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and safety.
Minimizing Waste
Our commitment to waste reduction extends from our production floor to every corner of our facilities. We package our products in recyclable and compactable materials to reduce single-use plastics, and throughout our offices and breakrooms, dedicated recycling bins keep everyday waste out of landfills.
We also take responsibility for the items that are easiest to overlook. Company-funded collection programs for single-use batteries and printer ink cartridges ensure that two of the most commonly discarded workplace items are properly recycled rather than landfilled. It’s the kind of detail that doesn’t make headlines but reflects our environmental commitments at every level of our operation.
We extend that same mindset to our broader community partnerships, working alongside the South Orange County Wastewater Authority (SOCWA) and the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) to minimize our environmental footprint beyond our own four walls.
The Proof is in the Data
As we grow and expand our capabilities, we are continually working to reduce our carbon footprint and prioritize practices that support a more sustainable future.
In 2025, our solar energy systems generated 166,230 kWh, accounting for over a third of our total energy consumption, and since 2017, we’ve eliminated nearly 337,000 kg of carbon emissions across our manufacturing locations. This elimination of carbon emissions is the equivalent of planting 10,058 trees and in 2025 alone, our efforts achieved the equivalent of planting 1,945 trees.
And we’re not stopping there. Our next milestone is reaching an ambitious goal of 100% renewable power generation by 2030, a target that keeps us moving forward and ahead of the industry curve.
Growing with Custom Flavors means growing sustainably.
Inspiring an Industry
Through our investment in renewable energy and eco-friendly practices, we hope to set the benchmark for environmental responsibility within the flavors industry. However, we realize that meaningful change requires more than one company’s commitment, it takes collective action.
As sustainability standards continue to rise across the industry, we think it’s worth asking: are your other suppliers on the same path? We’d love for you to join us in our commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
